Literally translated from Hindi, patchouli means "smells", as its wonderful aroma has been used for centuries as a perfume. In its concentrated essential oil form, patchouli has historical uses for skin beautification, acne fighting, and as an antimicrobial.

ORIGIN: Sri Lanka

AROMA: Woody, earthy and sweet-grassy

How to use:

Diffusion: Use 2 - 4 drops of patchouli in an aromatherapy diffuser of your choice
Topical: Dilute 1 - 2 drops in carrier oil of your choice and gently rub into desired area

Internal use: Dilute 1 drop in 200ml of liquid

Massage: Mix 5 - 10 drops with 50ml base oil until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

Cosmetics: Add essential oil not more than 0.4% to the finished product, stir with a plastic or wooden stirrer until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

Tips for use:

  • Diffuse 2 - 3 drops of patchouli in an aromatherapy diffuser or alternatively place 2 drops on a cotton pad for direct inhalation.

  • For restful sleep - dilute 25 drops of patchouli in 100ml of water and use the mixture on your pillow and bed linen before bed

  • For a relaxing massage - rub 2 - 3 drops of patchouli diluted in a base oil of your choice on the body, feet or temples

  • For a spa bath – put a few drops of patchouli in the bath

  • For an internal anti-inflammatory detox tonic – add 1 drop of patchouli oil to a beverage of your choice

  • For a steam bath against inflammation of the respiratory system - drop 2 drops of patchouli in boiling water

  • For skin problems - dilute 1 drop of patchouli in a base oil suitable for your problem and gently rub the affected area. Alternatively, you can add a drop of patchouli to your daily skin care regimen.

  • For body aches and pains, rub the affected area with 1-2 drops of patchouli diluted in a carrier oil of your choice

  • To repel insects - dilute 40 drops of patchouli in 100 ml of water and spray liberally with a spray bottle.
